Ova Magica: The Perfect Blend of Pokemon and Stardew Valley in a Charming Farming Sim

There's an exciting new release in the gaming world that perfectly blends elements from beloved series like Pokemon and Stardew Valley. This new joy is called Ova Magica, a JRPG-inspired farming sim that many fans, including myself, have eagerly anticipated for a long time.

Ova Magica is an indie game developed by Claudia Gorsky and her studio, Skinny Frog. Released in early access on PC just yesterday, it has quickly earned a "Very Positive" rating on Steam, and it's easy to see why. The game is a delightful mix of creature-collecting and traditional farming simulation, combining vibrant visuals with engaging gameplay. Players will find themselves catching bugs, crafting items, hatching and raising adorable blobs, harvesting crops, exploring, and even romancing or battling.

These charming blobs, which have cute animal themes, are central to Ova Magica and can be used in turn-based fights against other trainers. The combat mechanics will feel familiar to fans of Pokemon, with features like elemental advantages and status effects. Additionally, blobs can assist with farming tasks much like the Junimos of Stardew Valley, each specializing in different areas whether in combat or on the farm.

But there's more to Ova Magica than just managing blobs and fields. Players have the option to build relationships with a diverse cast of 13 bachelors or embark on solo expeditions to discover rare eggs and treasures. The blend of relationship-building, exploration, and strategic gameplay makes it feel like a combination of my favorite aspects from both Pokemon and Stardew Valley, with an added touch of JRPG style.

For those interested in diving into this cozy experience, Ova Magica is available on Steam in its early access phase. If you're looking for more comforting and engaging games, make sure to check out our list of favorite titles similar to Stardew Valley.
