Jon Watts Steps Away from Directing Spider-Man 4 Due to Busy Schedule and New Projects

Jon Watts will not be the director of Spider-Man 4 due to his full schedule.

It's been clear for a while that Jon Watts is steering away from Marvel Studios and the superhero genre, especially after completing his trilogy featuring Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Given how Spider-Man: No Way Home has become a cinematic giant, there's speculation about whether Marvel and Watts would have continued their collaboration. According to recent remarks by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, it seems this continued partnership would have been possible if their schedules aligned.

In a recent discussion with CinemaBlend, Feige expressed his admiration for Watts, mentioning that they cherish his work on three of the best Spider-Man films ever produced for Marvel. However, Watts has numerous commitments at the moment, which clearly hinders a potential collaboration.

Watts' upcoming endeavors include directing Apple's Wolfs, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. He is also set to direct several episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, likely conflicting with the production schedule of Spider-Man 4. Beyond these projects, the possibility of Watts returning to the Spider-Man franchise remains uncertain, leaving room for future developments.
