Instagram Expands Carousel Limit to 20 Media Items for Enhanced Sharing Experience

Instagram is implementing a significant update aimed at enhancing the way users share multiple photos and videos on its platform. The new change allows users to include more content in one carousel post compared to the earlier restriction of 10 uploads. According to the Meta-owned service, this update facilitates users looking to compile their end-of-summer photo collections. Additionally, this update builds on the recently introduced Meta AI Studio, which became available to users in the US last month, focusing on AI-assisted creativity.
Per Instagram's announcement, users can now incorporate as many as 20 photos or videos within a single carousel post. This extension of the feature offers improved convenience for users who want to share numerous media files, thus removing the hassle of splitting their collections into several different posts. Carousels on Instagram can be navigated by swiping right, making the viewing process seamless.
The carousel feature on Instagram was first unveiled in 2015, which initially allowed only up to 5 images. In 2017, the functionality expanded to include videos, raising the limit to 10. Earlier this year, it was reported that Instagram was experimenting with increasing this limit, allowing a select group of users to upload as many as 15 images in a single carousel. The goal was to eventually roll out this feature to a broader audience over time.
Although Instagram has announced that this new feature is becoming available today, staff members from Gadgets 360 could not confirm its implementation across various smartphone models yet.
Instagram has been actively launching new features and making improvements to existing functionalities in an effort to enhance the user experience, particularly for creators. Last month, a notable update was introduced that enabled multi-track support for Instagram Reels, allowing users to incorporate as many as 20 audio tracks within a single reel.
The rollout of Meta AI Studio has also introduced AI character capabilities. Individuals now have the ability to craft a custom AI persona, complete with a unique name, slogan, and profile, serving as the basis for developing a mini chatbot. Additionally, content creators on Instagram can produce AI avatars of themselves, which have the ability to engage in direct messages and reply to stories.
