Hope for Darkstalkers' Return: Insights from Capcom's Director on a Possible New Title

For many years, gaming enthusiasts have expressed their desire for a new installment in the Darkstalkers franchise. The last entry in this beloved series appeared in 1997 with the launch of Vampire Savior: World of Darkness, which is alternatively referred to as Darkstalkers 3. Since then, fans have revisited classic characters such as Felicia, Sasquatch, Anakaris, BB Hood, and Morrigan through various compilations.

Recently, Takayuki Nakayama, the director behind Street Fighter 6, suggested via X that a new Darkstalkers title was under consideration at one point. He mentioned that he had been assigned to a fighting game project at Capcom that was unrelated to Street Fighter, using a bat emoji to hint at its nature. Given the connection of bats to Darkstalkers and the prominence of Morrigan in the series, it's reasonable to draw conclusions about what he meant.

This project was believed to be in development around 2013 or 2014 alongside Otoranger, raising speculations that Capcom might have shelved it to prioritize Street Fighter V. This particular game experienced numerous challenges during its creation, which became evident during its initial release.

In response to coverage from EventHubs, Nakayama offered an additional comment, suggesting that there were aspects of the project he could not disclose yet. His words left open the possibility that Darkstalkers could be revisited, providing a glimmer of hope for fans eager for its return.

Although uncertainty persists, it seems Capcom remains open to the idea of reviving the Darkstalkers series, ensuring that hope continues to linger among its passionate supporters.
