Atari Reveals GameStation Go: A Retro Handheld Console with a Twist at CES 2025

Atari is set to unveil its latest handheld gaming device at CES 2025 next week, stirring excitement among retro gaming enthusiasts.

The newly showcased GameStation Go is a portable video game console that boasts a widescreen display and additional controls. This device features the expected d-pad, face buttons, and shoulder buttons typical of retro handheld systems. However, what truly distinguishes the GameStation Go is the addition of a Trak-Ball and Paddle on the left side, accompanied by a keypad positioned on the right.

An icon, reimagined.

Currently, details are limited, but the GameStation Go appears to finalize the design of a device initially announced a year prior. Originally named the Atari Gamestation Portable, it was scheduled for release during the final quarter of 2024 with a retail price of $149. The earlier variant included Atari's Trak-Ball, Paddle, and Keypad controllers, which have been refined in this latest iteration.

The Atari Trak-Ball is notably utilized in classic arcade games such as Centipede and Missile Command, while the Paddle is essential for games like Breakout. Additionally, titles like Brain Games and Codebreaker rely on the functionality of the Keypad. The presence of the My Arcade logo on the bottom affirms its manufacture under official license from Atari.

Given Atari’s recent acquisition of the Intellivision brand and various titles from Intellivision Entertainment LLC, it is anticipated that the GameStation Go will feature an extensive library of retro games. This acquisition includes rights to over 200 titles from the Intellivision collection, along with associated trademarks.

That’s all the information available at this moment. Stay tuned for additional updates when CES 2025 begins on January 7.
